DIY Halloween Countdown Sign
Fun and Pretty Faux Materials
I’m a little late on creating this great Halloween Countdown sign, but I still have plenty of time to enjoy it until the end. I’ve been wanting to create my first sign of some sort using wood plaques, and this was the perfect project. I combined ADORNit card stock with wood vinyl and chalkboard vinyl. The wood vinyl is such a great surprise; it looks like wood but cuts so easily. I’ve also been enjoying the Blender Basic paper pack from ADORNit since they are color coordinated!

Trace and cut out your desired card stock using your wood plaque.
Using mod podge or home made (glue and water), brush on a coat of glue to your wood plaque and then place the card stock on top, matching up the edges. Don’t worry if the edges aren’t perfect, we’ll be sanding them down later. Wait until this dries completely.
I added a second piece of coordinating card stock to add a little more definition to my background. I love these coordinating pages from the ADORNIT Blender Basics paper pack. They have an assortment of colors and patterns that work so great with each other.
I created a layout in Silhouette Design Studio that was a little smaller than the wood plaque. My working space was about 9″ x 9″, which is the orange square. I then played around with some different designs until I was satisfied with the overall layout.
Next, I cut out the wood vinyl pieces with my Curio, and then my square from the chalkboard vinyl.
Using either a nail filer or sandpaper, sand down the edges of your paper if there are any over lapping pieces. I used a 220 grit piece of sand paper. Make sure you file in a downward motion so that you don’t accidentally lift any of the paper edges.
The final step is to use transfer tape to adhere the wood vinyl designs and then peel and stick the chalkboard vinyl.
I used a photograph easel as my stand and placed my Halloween Countdown Sign on the kitchen counter.
