Custom is Always Better
Create Your Personalized Cake Topper
You would think creating a cake topper would have been one of the first projects I started, right after the invites. Unfortunately, with everything that had happened with my program crashing, and then realizing I only had two months to plan everything, the cake topper was one of the very last DIY projects I created. I had locked down my cake designer for our date ahead of time, and then right up till the very last minute, I finally came up with an idea for the cake topper. SIMPLE. EASY. QUICK. It’s always the best route. I didn’t want to complicate anything, so I simply took the same design I had been using for everything else and stuck it on a cake!
Start with your design in Silhouette Studio.
Select all, right click, press Offset. Create a small offset for a nice white boarder.
Make sure you turn your registration marks on. Very important!
Send your design to your printer to print on the Printable Vinyl material.
Load your Printable Vinyl into your machine, adjust settings as needed, and send to cut.
Make sure your settings are only going to cut the offset line, and not any other part of your design.
Next, load the chip board material onto your mat and cut just the offset shape.
Cut out two of these shapes for added support.
Lastly, using a hot glue gun, adhere two wooden sticks to the back of your cake topper.
I did cut out another offset shape onto blue cardstock. I thought this gave it a cleaner look if anyone decided to look at the back. This isn’t needed, I just got picky!
I’m so glad I kept it simple and didn’t over think the cake topper. Nini Dink Designs Custom Cakes did a fabulous job, as always, on the simple modern triangle design on the cake. She ended up using printable edible paper. The cake topper, along with the gold “2” made for the perfect modern Little Blue Truck cake.
