Manipulating Objects in Silhouette Design Studio: Tag Tutorial

Creating A Custom Pocket Tag

I’m sure by now, you are all seasoned veterans of print and cut, on your preferred Silhouette cutting machines. Right? Good! Now I’m going to walk you through a few steps, showing you how to manipulate objects, and add your own touch to them. Just because you purchase a design, doesn’t mean you have to keep it the way you see it, NOPE! So, let’s get started. I’m going to walk you through (mostly pictures, because I’m horrible at tutorials) how to create a gorgeous 3-D floral pocket tag.

For those of you who don’t have a Silhouette cutting machine, or are in desperate need of an upgrade, this is a great deal! From now until July 15th, you can get the new Cameo 3 and the Silhouette Handbook for  $249.99, because I LOVE my followers. Use code: CRAFTTHIS and use this link {HERE} to get that special price! It will be the best thing you’ve done for your crafting life in a while!

Supplies Needed

Silhouette cutting machine of your choice

Cardstock (white and craft – I’ve been using THIS one)

Printer

Design # 62934

Design #137705

Decorative String/Yarn

Designing a 3D Floral Print and Cut

Start by cutting out your pocket tag, Design #6293, on craft paper. (I resized mine down to approximately 3.5 in. high)

Fold and then glue the flap to the back piece.

Open your painted floral frame, Design #137705, and resize to fit on the front of your pocket tag. The flowers will hang off the edge. This is what we want in our design.

Right click the red cut line and select “Release Compound Object”. This will make the inside and outside lines separate.

Click the inside cut line object, and fill with preferred color. I chose #E0ECEC. Also, change the line color to none. This will make it so that it won’t cut if you are using the curio, or make sure you set that object to No Cut settings.

Add “Better Together” text. I chose my favorite font Bromello

Creating Your 3D Floral Object

Create a duplicate of your entire design, then delete your text, and change the inner cut line object to “no fill” color.

Click on the inner cut line object, then click on Edit Points

Start clicking on each point and right click to Delete Points

The points that are at the ends of each flower, Break those points, then Delete them

Repeat the same steps for the outside cut line object

Then, move the end points to touch the other end points at each side of the flowers

Select both the cut line objects, and right click to Make Compound Object.

Select both the cut line object and floral design, and select Crop from the Modify Settings

You will now be left with just the flowers and their cut lines

Make sure to turn on your registration marks, and send to Printer on white cardstock

Cutting and Assembling

Load your design onto your cutting mat and send to Silhouette.

Adhere the cut out floral design on top of the original design with foam dots.

Then, glue that onto your craft paper pocket tag.

You can then write a nice note on the small card you cut out, or create another print and cut to place on top of that piece.

Now, attach it to your gift with some decorate yarn and watch everyone smile when they see how beautiful their tag is!

I noticed my placemats that I made in 2017 have definitely been loved, and was thinking maybe that’ll be my first DIY blog post of the year!

  • My Top9 from 2018 makes me a little sad to look at, since I haven’t had a lot of time to do the things I enjoy lately.
I started working again in October, after not working for the past three years since being pregnant and having my son.
While I loved being a part of so many great design teams, I’ve decided that 2019 will be focused on building on my financial freedom (I absolutely hate depending on someone else for money and hate that I haven’t been able to contribute much for family expenses).
I’m hoping to still do some crafting when I have some free time, but definitely not as much as I use to.
I’ve enjoyed my crafting time and hope you all continue to follow me for future projects 💙
