The New Year is quickly approaching and you are planning the ultimate New Year’s Eve celebration. The cocktails chilling on ice, the hors d’oeuvre delectably prepared on your new serving trays, and the most epic playlist filling the room of your favorite people. What else could you need for this party to go down as one for the books? New Year’s Turtle props for your photo booth, of course!
These sparkly, party hat wearing turtles will be the life of the photo. They are an unexpected, fun filled, addition to this years New Year’s Eve extravaganza! With a little imagination and customization, you can turn these turtles into the talk of the party. They are originally created as a birthday turtle, but I saw major potential for them to become photo booth props.
Cardstock (Assorted colors of your choice)
Silhouette Double-Sided Adhesive (or glue)
Wooden Dowel (or popsicle stick)
Hot Glue Gun & Glue Stick
Step One: Open and Prepare Design In Silhouette Studio®
1. Open the Birthday Turtle design in Silhouette Studio®
2. Delete all objects associated with the cupcake
If you feel the over abundant urge to keep the cupcake, then by all means, keep the cupcake! I also decided to give him one solid, glittery, gold party hat, so I also deleted the split hat piece.
Step Two: Ungroup Design Pieces
We’ll be giving this turtle a fancy hat and a black-tie suitable shell, so we’ll need to ungroup the design so we can use different papers for each part.
To ungroup design pieces:
1. Right click on your design (CMND + Click on Mac®)
2. Select “Ungroup” from the dropdown menu
Before I start cutting each piece, I move all pieces that aren’t being cut in the same color paper, outside of the live area in Silhouette Studio® until it’s time to cut them.
Step Three: Cut and Assemble Turtle
To cut out your design:
1. Move each piece that will be cut with the same color cardstock onto the live area in Silhouette Studio®
2. In the Cut Settings panel, set your cut settings to your chosen media
3. Adjust the blade as needed based on your cardstock
I used a glitter cardstock for the turtle’s hat. I have found that I need to place the blade setting to at least 2 number settings higher than the recommended for it to cut all the way through glitter cardstock.
4. Click “Send to Silhouette”
This turtle has many pieces, so it might be wise to refer back to the original photo from the Design Studio. I always find it handy to take a screen shot of the original photo and place it on my desktop for quick reference. You want to make sure you aren’t putting his turtle toes in the wrong place!
Using either the Silhouette Double-Sided Adhesive or glue of your choice, start adhering all the pieces of your New Year’s Eve Turtle together.
Step Four: Attach Wooden Dowel
How to attach wooden dowel:
1. Turn the finished turtle facing down
2. Using your hot glue gun, place a small dot of glue in the middle of the shell
3. Place wooden dowel on glue and hold until secured
